“Why do I feel so misunderstood?”

Keeping up at school, joining a conversation, or adjusting to a new routine can take more effort than others realize. You might replay what you said, struggle to explain what you need, or feel worn out from trying to meet expectations that don’t seem to fit.

An ADHD or autism diagnosis can help you understand some of these experiences. There may also be feelings to explore: frustration after years of criticism, uncertainty about friendships, or anxiety about how others see you. Social anxiety can make it harder to reach for the connection you want.

At Mend Center for Psychotherapy, we helps you explore how these experiences have shaped your sense of self and your relationships, with room to express what life feels like for you.

Who Is Neurodivergent Therapy For?

We support teens and young adults diagnosed with ADHD, autism, or social anxiety who want support with their emotional lives and relationships. This may include those who:

Through individual therapy, you can explore how these experiences affect you, develop a clearer understanding of your needs, and work toward goals that matter to you.

How Psychotherapy Can Support You

Therapy makes room for the everyday challenges you’re facing and how they affect you emotionally. We work with you to understand what feels difficult and what you want to change.

Understand Your Emotional Responses

Explore what happens when you feel frustrated, overwhelmed, or misunderstood, including how experiences of criticism or rejection have influenced the way you see yourself.

Express Yourself in Relationships

Talk through moments when connection feels difficult. Therapy offers room to explore fears of judgment, communicate your needs, and understand what helps you feel comfortable with others.

Find Your Direction Through Change

Navigating high school, starting college, or entering the workplace can bring unfamiliar pressures. Explore these transitions with support for your feelings, decisions, and developing sense of identity.

Our Therapeutic Approach

We draw on psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems, and client-centered approaches. Sessions focus on understanding your experience, with attention to your emotions, relationships, and the goals you bring to therapy.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Explore how your emotional history and early relationships influence the way you see yourself and relate to others. This can include understanding expectations you’ve absorbed, feelings that are difficult to express, or patterns that emerge when you feel misunderstood.
You might want connection while also feeling an urge to withdraw, or feel frustrated with yourself despite knowing you’re trying hard. IFS offers a way to explore these different parts of your experience with curiosity and compassion.
Your perspective guides the work. Your therapist creates room for you to describe your experiences in your own words, explore what matters to you, and take an active role in deciding what you want from therapy.
Friendships, family relationships, and experiences at school or work can shape how comfortable you feel expressing yourself. Together, you can explore misunderstandings, fears of judgment, and what helps you feel heard and connected.
CBT explores the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You can learn to recognize self-critical thoughts or anxious predictions, consider other perspectives, and practice different responses to situations that feel difficult.

Explore Together at Your Pace

Ongoing sessions give you time to explore experiences that are difficult to put into words. Together, you and your therapist will work toward your goals and revisit what feels helpful as therapy progresses.

Why Work With Mend Center for Psychotherapy

You're not a problem to fix, but a story to understand.

At Mend Center for Psychotherapy, we take time to understand how you experience the world. We consider any diagnoses alongside your interests, relationships, and personal history to get to know you more fully. Therapy makes room for all of these parts of your life.

For teens and young adults, this can mean exploring how years of feeling misunderstood have affected confidence, or how growing expectations at school and home influence your sense of independence. We bring a warm, thoughtful approach to conversations that may have been difficult to have elsewhere.

A meaningful therapeutic relationship is central to Mend’s approach. As trust develops, you have room to share uncertainty, express disagreement, and explore feelings you usually keep to yourself. These conversations can help you understand what happens in your relationships and consider new ways of expressing your needs.

We’ll begin with your experience and make room for what matters to you.
