Therapy for psychotherapists

We are hurt in relationships and we heal in relationships. The therapeutic relationship is central to my approach to treatment. A psychoanalytic approach helps you understand the hidden patterns that shape your thoughts, feelings and relationships. It is more than symptom relief, it is about exploring the deeper narratives beneath your struggles, hardships, and setbacks. I aim to help my patients live with more internal freedom, emotional integration, and authentic self expression.

With 25 years of experience in this field, I have come to realize I didn’t so much choose this profession, as it chose me. Looking back, I was drawn to the depth of the therapeutic journey, without fully knowing my own motivations. It has been sitting with people in their most vulnerable places and bearing witness to our common struggles, where I have discovered my own humanity in the process. Listening to the stories of others, I keep finding myself.

I specialize in helping men connect with their emotions, helping leaders in times of crisis both personal and professional, therapy for therapists, issues of sexuality, and issues of faith and spirituality. I offer both individual psychotherapy for adults and couple’s psychotherapy. In addition to these modalities, I also offer couple’s intensives (3 hour sessions to intensify the work when couples are on the brink). I do the same for leadership intensives when leaders are dealing with acute professional crises. I can treat individuals and couples virtually in more than 30 states through the PsyPact Compact. Here is a link to qualifying states: https://psypact.gov/page/psypactmap

I also offer psychoanalysis (3x to 4x a week). Psychoanalysis invites a sustained exploration of unconscious feelings, desires, and conflicts. With increased session frequency, more space is created for analysand and analyst to explore the internal experiences that are felt but have escaped translation, the dynamics of the therapeutic relationship, and the way past experiences live in the present.

I earned a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from George Fox University (2008), where I graduated with the recognition of Most Outstanding Student. In addition, I hold an M.A. in Psychology from George Fox University (2005) and an M.A. in Counseling from Denver Seminary (2003). I have also earned a certificate in psychoanalysis at the Greater Kansas City and Topeka Psychoanalytic Institute. In addition to my clinical training, I was an Associate Professor in the School of Behavioral Sciences and Counseling at MidAmerica Nazarene University from 2010 thru 2018.
